What is E-E-A-T?
E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — a framework from Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines that describes the qualities Google looks for in high-quality, trustworthy web content.
Google's quality evaluators (human raters who assess search result quality) use E-E-A-T as a lens for judging whether content is genuinely valuable and trustworthy. While E-E-A-T is not a direct algorithmic ranking factor in the traditional sense, it strongly influences how Google's systems understand and evaluate content quality.
Breaking Down Each Component
Breaking down each component: Experience (added in 2022) — does the content creator have direct, first-hand experience with the topic? Expertise — does the creator have formal knowledge, training, or deep domain knowledge in the subject? Authoritativeness — is the website and its authors recognized as an authority in their field? Are they cited by other authoritative sources? (See Topical authority) Trustworthiness — is the site transparent about who operates it, how to contact them, what their policies are? Is the content accurate, well-sourced, and free of misleading claims?
How to improve E-E-A-T: Create detailed author bio pages with credentials, include original research and first-hand case studies in content, earn citations from recognized industry publications, build a comprehensive About page and transparent contact information, demonstrate a track record of accurate, up-to-date content, and accumulate genuine customer reviews and testimonials.
