What is a Scroll Animation?
A scroll animation is a visual animation that is triggered or driven by the user's scrolling behavior on a webpage — creating the effect that elements come to life as the user moves through the content.
Scroll animations are one of the most powerful tools in modern web design for storytelling, engagement, and directing user attention. When done well, they transform a static page into an immersive, cinematic experience that rewards exploration.
Types of Scroll Animations
Types of scroll animations include: Scroll-triggered (an animation fires once when an element enters the viewport), Scroll-driven/parallax (elements move at different speeds relative to scroll position, creating depth — also called a parallax effect), Progress-based (an animation's progress directly corresponds to how far the user has scrolled), and Sticky scroll (an element remains fixed on screen while the user scrolls).
In Webflow, scroll animations are built natively in the Interactions panel using scroll-triggered and scroll-position-based triggers. Lottie animations can also be scroll-driven. No JavaScript required for most effects.
Scroll animations should always serve a purpose — they should guide attention, reveal information progressively, or enhance storytelling. At Appsrow, our scroll animations are purposeful, performant, and beautiful.
